Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., said Wednesday her plan for helping Americans attend college includes making community college free across the board.

In the opening minutes of the Democratic presidential debate, Klobuchar was asked about giving people a free college tuition and whether she still believes it would take a "magic Jeannie" to get it done.

"My plan would be to first of all make community college free," she said. "Make sure that everyone else besides that top percentile gets help with their education."

Klobuchar added she would double government benefits such as Pell Grants to help Americans pay for college tuition.

She ended her answer by suggesting the federal government should also help Americans get out of student loan debt.

"The third thing I would do is make it easier for students to pay off their student loans because I can tell you this: if billionaires got off their yachts, students should be able to pay their student loans," she said.
