That's because Joe Newman is 101 years old.
Newman is running in a solidly Republican district on Florida's Gulf Coast that extends south from Bradenton,
Forward.com reports.
"At what age does a person become too old to think and reason?" he says on his website.
"At what age does a person no longer have a concern for society?"
Newman plans an election-night party at a pizza place in Sarasota.
He has already written his concession speech.
Newman, a retired accountant, and his wife were among the founders of the Logan Center, a school for developmentally disabled children.
His wife is deceased. Newman now lives with his girlfriend and her daughter.
