A record number of police officers were shot in the line of duty last year – yet law enforcement officers are hopeful that the vilification of cops that gained significant momentum in 2020 is starting to recede as communities look to authorities to clamp down on crime.

There were 378 officers shot in the line of duty in 2023, according to data compiled by the Fraternal Order of Police.
