Tim Alberta's 2023 book "The Kingdom, The Power, and the Glory" received rave reviews from some corners for proposing the idea that evangelical Christians have forsaken their faith for "political idolatry."

It was taken as a broadside swipe at self-described evangelical Christians, who – notwithstanding a long history of support for Republican and conservative candidates – voted heavily for Donald Trump for president in 2020.
