As federal lawmakers focus on figuring out how to keep the government funded ahead of a polarizing general election, state legislatures are likely to drive the biggest conversations about policy this year.

With major partisan divides in Congress expected to cripple any major legislative reforms from going into effect this year, more united state legislative bodies will get credit for enacting new policies and laws.
