The recent series of Houthi rebel attacks on ships in the Red Sea is the most unprecedented assault on merchant shipping since World War II and the Battle of the North Atlantic.
The barrage by the Iranian-backed militants began on Nov. 19 with the seizure of an empty car carrier, the Galaxy Leader, that had been traveling north towards the Suez Canal. There have been more than 20 additional attacks and two more ship seizures.
