The chair of the powerful Senate Judiciary Committee has thrown his weight behind an effort to allow whistleblowers to continue their ability to sue on behalf of the government and share in the recovery of funds.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, filed an amicus brief on Jan. 15 before the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals after a Florida federal court ruled last September that the False Claims Act's qui tam provision — which allows whistleblowers to bring lawsuits against fraudsters on behalf of the federal government and share in any recoveries — is unconstitutional.
