US Scrambles to Deter Russian Cyberattack on Power Grid

National security officials are rushing to fix online vulnerabilities in the U.S. power grid that allowed Russian hackers to penetrate so deeply into utility company networks that analysts now believe they could have turned out the lights on thousands, and perhaps millions of Americans.

Officials disclosed hundreds of companies had been affected by the cyberwarfare attacks, many more than initially disclosed.
