Matt Towery on Jeb's Cruz Endorsement: He 'Doesn't Have Much Impact This Year'

More than a month after he dropped out of the 2016 presidential race, Jeb Bush made an endorsement, tapping Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas as the best candidate to defeat Donald Trump for the GOP nomination, and then Hillary Clinton in the general election.

But veteran pollster Matt Towery tells Newsmax TV that Bush's seal of approval will amount to a hill of beans as Republicans appear to barrel towards a brokered, three-candidate GOP convention this summer.

"Nope. He really doesn't have much impact this year," Towery, CEO of the Internet news agency InsiderAdvantage, said Wednesday to J.D. Hayworth on "Newsmax Prime."

"Jeb's a great guy but his endorsement is not going to carry very much with the national convention or anyone else."

Bush endorsed Cruz Wednesday morning while taking potshots at Trump, who he continuously warred with when he was still in the race.

He said Republican voters must strive to overcome "the divisiveness and vulgarity" Trump has brought into the race.

If that doesn't happen, the former Florida governor said, "we will certainly lose our chance to defeat the Democratic nominee and reverse President [Barack] Obama's failed policies."

Trump still holds a sizeable delegate lead over Cruz — 739 to 465.
