With the April 15 tax filing deadline approaching, only 17% believe their own taxes will go down under President Donald Trump’s tax cuts, a new poll showed.
The NBC News/Wall Street Journal survey found 28% believe they'll pay more, 27% expect to pay about the same and 28% don't know enough to say.
The tax blues are bipartisan, according to the poll: only 33% of Republicans, 10% of independents and 7% of Democrats believe they're getting a tax cut.
The poll’s margin of error is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
Individual tax refunds are down $6 billion this year, but Council of Economic Advisers chair Kevin Hassett has said annual disposable income for the average American went up $2,100 in 2018 after the law passed, NPR reported.
Public opinion on the tax cuts has historically fallen along ideological lines; a Gallup poll last year showed 24 percent of Republicans said the tax cut law “helped a lot” versus only 3 percent of Democrats saying that.
