Newt Gingrich: Trump Tax Cuts 'Vindicated' by NY Times Report

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich came to the defense of Donald Trump after The New York Times report about the president's taxes showed he claimed losses of more than $1 billion from 1985 to 1994.

Trump has labeled the report "a highly inaccurate fake news hit job."

But Gingrich, in a Wednesday appearance on television's "Fox News' "Fox & Friends," said the newspaper's report actually helps the president and his tax cuts.

"When you lower taxes, there is less reason to create losses for tax purposes," Gingrich said. "So, in a very real way, the Trump tax cuts are vindicated by The New York Times story."

"Every American should ask themselves how sick do you get when The New York Times and The Washington Post go out of their way day after day after day to find an excuse to attack the president?"

Gingrich added: "We live in the age of the Kardashians and The New York Times has managed to descend to that level."
