Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-Texas, is deciding whether to make a 2020 bid for the seat now held Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, The Texas Tribune is reporting.

Castro’s office announced on Friday he “will seriously consider running for Senate in 2020.” The Tribune said.

His spokesman Matthew Jones said: “Right now, he's focused on protecting Texans – and all Americans – from the most consequential challenge to our constitutional separation of powers that we have seen in a generation.

"He will not stand by while the president attempts to unilaterally strip Texans of their land to build a wall in a manner that most Americans, especially Texans, disagree with."

His twin brother, Julian, is running for the Democratic presidential nomination. He told the Associated Press Joaquin “would make a decision at some point soon.”
