Quinnipiac Poll: Biden Widens Lead Among Dems

Former Vice President Joe Biden has bounced back to build up a sizable lead over his Democratic rivals for the party's presidential nomination, securing 34% of those surveyed, with Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., in second place at 15%, according to a Quinnipiac University National Poll released Monday. 

In the previous Quinnipiac survey from July 2, Biden's lead had been significantly narrowed to only 2 percentage points, 22% to 20% for Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif.

In the latest poll, Harris has fallen to third place at 12%, with Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., in fourth at 11%.

Other results from the survey show:

  • 51% of Democrats say Biden has the best chance of beating President Donald Trump, with 10% for Sanders and 8% each for Harris and Warren.
  • Among black Democrats, Biden leads at 53%, with 8% for Sanders, 7% for Harris, and 4% for Warren.
  • Among women, 34% support Biden, 15% are for Warren, 14% for Harris and 10% for Sanders.
  • Warren leads among very liberal Democrats at 29%, with 25% for Biden, 15% for Sanders, and 12% for Harris.
  • Among all American voters, 54% say they "definitely" will not vote for Trump, which includes 57% of Independents who say that. Among all voters, 32% say they "definitely" will vote for Trump, while 12% say they will consider voting for him. 

The poll was conducted from July 25-28 among 1,306 voters nationwide with a margin of error of +/- 3.4 percentage points.
