Poll: Just Under One-Third Believe US Is Headed in Right Direction

Just 32% of likely voters believe the U.S. is headed in the right direction, compared to 62% who believe it is headed down the wrong track, according to a new Rasmussen Reports poll.

The number of those who say they believe it is headed in the right direction is up 4 points from a week ago. And those who say the nation is headed down the wrong path is down 4 points from a week ago.

Here are how the poll results, released on Monday, break down:

  • 19% of Republicans say they believe the U.S. is headed down the right track, compared to 80% who say it is headed down the wrong track.
  • 53% of Democrats say the U.S. is headed in the right direction, compared to 40% who say it is not.
  • 24% of independents says the nation is headed down the right track, compared to 67% who say it is headed in the wrong direction.

The poll, conducted Aug. 7-11, surveyed 2,500 likely voters. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
