Rupert Murdoch, son of a successful Australian newspaper publisher, has built the world’s largest media corporation with assets that include Fox News, The Wall Street Journal, the New York Post, the Times of London, The Sun (UK), numerous cable and network television stations, magazines and web sites, not to mention book publisher Harper Collins and movie studio 20th Century Fox. But as he reaches the end of his long career, Murdoch has become drawn in to the UK phone-hacking scandal, and may be looking to step away from day-to-day involvement in news. The assumption has been that one of his two sons would take charge of News Corporation when he resigns. But it’s looking like Murdoch has someone else in mind.
