Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell called President Donald Trump to tell him his tweets criticizing Christine Blasey Ford were not helpful, two people familiar with the call told CNN Sunday.
Blasey Ford last Sunday came forward accusing Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault.
Trump, in a series of tweets Friday, said the nomination is "under assault by radical left wing politicians” and that "I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents. I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place."
An aide to McConnell told CNN the Kentucky senator and the president "speak all the time," but he "doesn't have any read-outs" of their conversations.
Kavanaugh has denied Christine Blasey Ford's allegations.
The Washington Post first reported about McConnell’s call in a story about Republican efforts to save Kavanaugh's confirmation.
Trump has not tweeted criticism of Ford since Friday.
