Republican Mike DeWine is projected to be Ohio's next governor, replacing outgoing Republican Gov. John Kasich after narrowly defeating Democratic challenger Richard Cordray, several networks said Tuesday, after coming out with 51 percent of the vote.

According to The Cincinnati Enquirer, Cordray was ahead of DeWine early in the race among early and absentee voters, unofficial results from the Secretary of State's office showed, but after 87 percent of precincts reporting, DeWine took the nod.
