A large protest Wednesday at the funeral of a high-profile dissident cleric surprised the government of Iran and proved that the Green Movement is not moribund, as some had speculated, but is in fact highly energized and willing to take on the regime publicly and at great risk to individual participants.
The regime likely will increase security to prevent more expressions of popular discontent before and after the June 14 presidential election to replace Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. But this will only strengthen the determination of the opposition to be heard.
