President Donald Trump received a letter from North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un on Wednesday — "we have responded," White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Thursday — and no second meeting is planned between the leaders.
"He did receive a letter," Sanders told reporters at the White House briefing. "There is not a second meeting that is currently locked in or finalized.
"We're certainly open to that discussion, but there isn't a meeting planned.
"We have responded to Chairman Kim's letter, the president has," she added. "That letter will be delivered shortly."
Trump early Thursday thanked Kim on Twitter for returning the remains of U.S. soldiers killed in the Korean War and for his "nice letter," ending the post with: "I look forward to seeing you soon."
Sanders declined to disclose the contents of either letter, saying only they "addressed their commitment from their joint statement that was made at the Singapore summit.
"They're going to continue working together towards complete and total denuclearization."
When asked whether President Trump was satisfied with the progress with Pyongyang — at nearly two months after the summit — Sanders responded: "The president won't be satisfied until all of Korea has been denuclearized.
"We'll continue to move forward.
"We've seen steps of progress and continued cooperation," she added. "We're incredibly grateful and thankful for the remains of the service members that were returned.
"We're going to continue to work with North Korea."
