Attorney General Jeff Sessions was spotted dining in Washington on Wednesday evening with two top Justice Department officials on a day when he came under attack by President Donald Trump.

Axios reported seeing the attorney general dining at "a high-end Washington restaurant" with Deputy Rod Rosenstein and Solicitor General Noel Francisco.

"The symbolism was unmistakable," according to the report.

"The three top-ranking officials in the Justice Department appearing together in a show of solidarity on the same day Trump is publicly and privately raging about Sessions."

Trump slammed Sessions on Twitter for assigning a probe into alleged surveillance abuses by the FBI and the Justice Department to the inspector general's office.

Sessions hit back, however, saying in a statement: "As long as I am the attorney general, I will continue to discharge my duties with integrity and honor, and this department will continue to do its work in a fair and impartial manner according to the law and Constitution."
