A U.S. district judge dismissed a challenge to Massachusetts' assault weapons ban, upholding a 1998 law, The Hill reported.
Firearms and large magazines that Massachusetts banned in 1998 are "not within the scope of the personal right to 'Bear Arms' under the Second Amendment," Judge William Young wrote in his ruling.
A military-style rifle is "designed and intended to be particularly suitable for combat rather than sporting applications," Young wrote in his ruling, the Hill reported.
Other states are free to regulate assault weapons or not, Young wrote in his ruling.
"These policy matters are simply not of constitutional moment. Americans are not afraid of bumptious, raucous, and robust debate about these matters. We call it democracy," the judge added, noted the Hill.
Gun Owners Action League of Massachusetts filed the lawsuit in 2017, the report said.
