There’s been “significant progress” in defeating ISIS, but the terrorist group hasn't given up its “narrative” or “objective,’" Brookings Institution president and former U.S. and NATO commander in Afghanistan John Allen said Sunday.
In an interview on CBS News’ “Face The Nation,” the retired four-star Marine Corp general said the jihadi are nowhere near wiped out.
“There’s still thousands of these folks unaccounted for” who’ve “gone to ground,” he said, adding: “They haven’t give-up one iota of their narrative or their obligations or their objective.”
Allen said ISIS has become “a three-headed monster.”
“I think it’s a wait point in the process” of defeating ISIS, he said. “We saw that this organization would eventually become a three-headed monster.”
“One of those heads was the core of the organization in Iraq and Syria,” he said. The other is the provincial dimension of it today which is seen in multiple locations around the world. The third is the internet.”
“There has been signifiant progress in eliminating one of the principal dimensions of this threat,” he said.
