Lieberman: Bipartisan Coalition to Hold Nomination in April

The bipartisan coalition No Labels will hold a presidential nomination in April, former Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., said Sunday.

Speaking on "Fox News Sunday," Lieberman told host Shannon Bream: "We already have scheduled a bipartisan convention. Think about it. We haven't seen that ever in recent history. A bipartisan nominating convention for Dallas, Texas, in April of next year."

Lieberman, who sits as the founding chair of the group, continued: "Right now, we're focused first on what's most important: on getting on the ballot with a third line in all 50 states that we will then offer and give to a bipartisan unity ticket."

The onetime Democratic vice presidential nominee then noted that the country is ripe for a third-party candidate who is neither President Joe Biden nor former President Donald Trump.

"Our plan is to only run if we think we have a chance to win realistically," Lieberman continued. "And, look, we just finished a poll of 10,000 voters in the eight battleground states. And we give them a choice of Trump, Biden, and a moderate independent third choice. And 63% say that they're open to a moderate, independent third choice."

He did not say how No Labels would select their presidential nominee or who might be considered, but added, "We think there's a real opportunity for a third choice."

Democrats have criticized the effort, saying it may give rise to a Trump return to the White House.

Last month, according to Politico, Rep. Annie Kuster, D-N.H. said: "Let me be clear: No Labels is trying to use a false message of unity to sow division. Their plan to run a third-party ticket in 2024 will pave the path for the most extreme, far-right candidate to win the White House — namely, former President Trump."
