Former "Jeopardy" champ James Holzhauer will likely have nearly half of his $2.462 million winnings from his 32-game winning streak whacked by taxes, according to a sports media analytics company.
The pro sports bettor is a resident of Nevada, but the game show took place in California — which means he is on the hook for taxes that are the highest in the nation, at 13.3%, The Action Network reported.
Holzhauer told the outlet the actual check he got this week had those taxes withheld.
But federal and California taxes will trim the net winning to $1.29 million — a wrenching 47.6% cut, The Action Network reported.
Ken Jennings is still the all-time "Jeopardy" earnings champ, taking home more than $2.5 million after his 74-game winning streak in 2004.
Holzhauer set a record during his run for most money won in the single game — the show that aired April 17 in which he won $131,127, The Hill noted.
