The United States rank 24th in the world on environmental performance, near the back of the pack for developed nations, according to a new analysis.

The Environmental Performance Index from Yale and Columbia universities showed that topping the list was Denmark, followed by Luxembourg, Switzerland, and the U.K.

In the EPI’s  two-decade history, including the Trump administration, the United States has never risen to the top of the rankings, the Guardian reported.

The index ranks 180 countries on 32 performance indicators across 11 categories covering environmental health and ecosystem vitality.

China is in 120th place, and India’s in 168th place.

The US ranked 15th on climate, the study found, and is the second-biggest contributor to the climate crisis, after China, and scored particularly poorly on protecting water resources and managing its waste.

The United States did better on air quality, ranking 16th.
