House Democrats are urging House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to force presidents to release their tax returns, a direct result of President Donald Trump not doing so.

According to The Hill, the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) is sending around a letter to drum up support for a measure that would be added to the good-government bill Democrats are working on.

The CPC wants to add a provision to the bill that would force presidents, vice presidents, and nominees in each major party to make public their personal and business tax returns for the previous 10 years.

"We're very supportive of H.R. 1 but there's a few places where it needs to be strengthened," Progressive Caucus co-chair Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., told The Hill.

Trump has refused to release his tax returns, claiming he is under audit. The IRS said being under audit does not preclude him from making them public, but Trump's lawyers have advised him not to do so.

Democrats have vowed to pursue getting their hands on Trumps tax returns now that they control the House.
