Ten counties will decide who will win the 2020 presidential election, according to The Hill.
Two dozen strategists, political scientists and observers were interviewed to compile the list, The Hill said.
- Erie County, Pennsylvania – Donald Trump beat Hillary Clinton in 2016 in the county where half of voters are registered Democrats and 36% are Republicans.
- Sauck County, Wisconsin – Trump became the first Republican to carry the county in 28 years. The county has predicted the winner of the state’s electoral votes in nine of the last 10 presidential races.
- Muskegon County, Michigan – Clinton won by just 1,200 votes in 2016. “Muskegon will be indicative of the statewide vote in the next election,” said Holly Hughes, who served on the Republican National Committee.
- Maricopa County, Arizona – Trump beat Clinton here by just 3 percentage points. Only one Republican in recent history has won a statewide election without winning Maricopa County.
- Tarrant County, Texas – The county hasn’t voted for a Democratic presidential candidate since Lyndon Johnson. But a population boom in recent years means Republicans have lost market share.
- New Hanover County, North Carolina – Trump won the county by 2.9 percentage points. Parts of the county have had an influx of urban white liberals, making the city more Democratic, said one elections analyst.
- Lincoln County, Maine – Clinton won by just 2% here in a county with a mix of working class fishermen and deep-pocketed retirees.
- Hillsborough County, New Hampshire – Trump won in 2016 in a county representing about a quarter of the states registered voters.
- Washington County, Minnesota – Clinton won by just 1.8 percentage points here. The county voted twice for George W. Bush and then twice of Barack Obama.
- Peach County, Georgia – Trump won in 2016 in a county where half the residents are white and 45% are African American.
