TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — A doctor says Rep. Gabrielle Giffords felt sunshine on her face for the first time since the shooting rampage.

Dr. Peter Rhee says University Medical Center staff helped her stand on Thursday and get into a wheelchair, and then took her to a deck. From there, she was able to breathe in the fresh air.

Rhee says Giffords loves the outdoors and smiled when she was on the deck.

Giffords is expected to be transferred from the Tucson hospital on Friday to a Houston rehab center.

A gunman shot Giffords in the head during a Jan. 8 rampage outside a supermarket where she was holding a meet-and-greet event with constituents.
