U.S. Senator Dan Coats, an Indiana Republican, said he won’t seek re-election in 2016.
“I have concluded that the time has come to pass this demanding job to the next generation of leaders,” Coats said Tuesday in an e-mailed statement.
Coats served in the Senate from 1989 to 1999 and then became U.S. ambassador to Germany. He won his current Senate term in 2010.
