WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican leaders in the
U.S. Congress said Wednesday they would not support tax
increases as part of a deficit-reduction plan.
Their comments came shortly after hearing details of
President Barack Obama's proposal.
Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell and House of
Representatives Speaker John Boehner also said a
deficit-cutting plan will have to be in place in order to raise
the debt ceiling and allow the government to continue to borrow
money.
