NBC News' chief foreign affairs correspondent Andrea Mitchell does not believe she was the target of a reprimand by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a meeting with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in Moscow.

"My colleague Carol Morello was the brave journalist who started asking questions," Mitchell said in a statement emailed to Newsmax. "Lavrov was looking right at her."

The Hill reported that after someone shouted out a question, Lavrov asked, "Who was giving you your manners, you know?"

Various news outlets had reported Lavrov had appeared to be scolding Mitchell.

But Mitchell said: "I was on the opposite side of the room, behind him, out of sight. Perhaps I was a convenient foil, but I'm pretty sure I wasn't his target."
