Most Americans believe the United States hasn't done enough to capture Osama bin Laden, a new UPI/Zogby International poll shows.
According to the poll:
56% said they don’t believe the Bush administration has focused an adequate amount of time and military resources on the effort to find and capture bin Laden. Democrats (84%) are far more likely than Republicans (25%) to say the Bush administration’s efforts to locate bin Laden have been inadequate. 19% believe finding bin Laden should take precedence in the war on terror, while 41% said the military should stay focused on stabilizing Iraq. 35% believe the war in Iraq and finding bin Laden are equally important. 31% of Democrats believe searching for bin Laden is more important than focusing on Iraq; just 5% of Republicans feel the same. More than half of Republicans (55%) believe stabilizing Iraq should be the priority – half as many Democrats agree (24%). Though there has been speculation that bin Laden is dead, the vast majority of Americans (81%) believe he is still alive. 64% said they believe bin Laden still maintains operational control over al-Qaida six years after the 9/11 attacks in America and that he continues to coordinate and plan future terrorist attacks. 26% doubt bin Laden remains in control of running the terrorist organization.The interactive survey of 7,102 adults nationwide was conducted from Sept. 7-10, 2007 and carries a margin of error of +/- 1.2 percentage points.
