Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich netted almost $2.7 million in the first three months of the year for his political committee.

Gingrich, who is mulling a presidential bid, outshone his potential GOP rivals for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination -- Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty, Sarah Palin and Mike Huckabee -- bringing in more than their collective amounts raised, according to a report in Politico.

Gingrich's group, American Solutions, a so-called 527 group, can accept unlimited contributions from people and corporations. The groups headed by Romney, Palin and Pawlenty, however, are federal political action committees limited to contribution limits of $5,000 per-person-per-year, and they may not accept corporate cash.
