WASHINGTON (AP) — Authorities in Washington are investigating a suspicious object found in a park near the White House.

D.C. police officer Paul Metcalf says police and the Secret Service are investigating the object found Sunday in Lafayette Park, but he did not have any other description of the object or why it was deemed suspicious. Fire spokesman Pete Piringer said fire personnel were assisting, though he also did not have a description of the object.

Metcalf said the object was reported about 12:40 p.m.
