Sen. Hillary Clinton -- not Sen. Barack Obama -- would be a stronger opponent for Sen. John McCain in November, according to Karl Rove.
Rove's consulting firm, Karl Rove & Co., conducted a state-by-state analysis of hypothetical match-ups, based on an average of public polls, according to ABC News blogger Jake Tapper. Rove's survey shows that McCain would win states totaling 238 electoral votes to Obama's 221. States with 79 electoral votes are too close to call. To win the presidency, 270 of 538 electoral votes are needed.
If the election pitted Clinton against McCain, Rove's analysis shows Clinton lwinning 259 electoral votes to McCain's 206. States worth 73 electoral votes are seen as toss-ups.
