The controversy over President Barack Obama’s birthplace won’t end, even though the state of Hawaii has posted his certificate of live birth. A new survey by Public Policy Polling shows that 51 percent of
R
epublican voters believe Obama was born outside the United States, reports Politico.
Only 28 percent think the president was born in the United States — a constitutional requirement to be president — and 21 percent are unsure.
“Any thought that the birther theory has been put to rest can be thrown out the window,” Dean Debnam, president of the Democratic-leaning polling firm tells Politico. “That view is still widely held in Republican circles.”
Among voters who don’t believe Obama was born in the United States, Mike Huckabee is the No. 1 choice for president, followed by Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, and then Mitt Romney.
