Kyl: Obama’s Quest for Nuke-Free World ‘Loopy’

Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., apparently isn’t too impressed with President Barack Obama’s mission for a nuclear weapons-free world. Kyl called the idea “loopy” in a speech Tuesday, The Hill reports.

He doesn’t like changes he says the Obama administration has implemented to “rewrite” our deterrence policy as part of the goal to eliminate nuclear weapons globally. Cutting the U.S. nuclear weapons inventory will only lead rogue states, and even U.S. allies, to “try to match” the U.S. arsenal, Kyl said.

He also blasted Obama for giving Russia too much influence over our nuclear weapons inventory and missile defense plans. The administration’s policy in those areas is founded on the idea of “trying not to offend the Russians,” Kyl said.
