TUCSON, Ariz. (Reuters) - The suspected gunman in the Arizona shooting spree Saturday is not "insane" but is "unstable," Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik said.

The sheriff told a news conference that the suspect was tackled to the ground after the shooting that left six people dead and 13 wounded, including Gabrielle Giffords, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Dupnik did not identify the suspect in custody. The suspect has been named as Jared Lee Loughner, 22, by national media.
