Cantor: GOP Fought on Abortion in Budget Deal

By    |   Sunday, 10 April 2011 12:06 PM EDT ET

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor says Republicans fought hard to preserve bans on abortion in the 2011 budget deal reached late Friday night, Politico reports.

“We believe very strongly that we ought not to be spending tax payer dollars to fund abortion,” Cantor said on "Fox News Sunday." “We fought very hard for that.”

Cantor said the issue of funding for Planned Parenthood is about the “fungibility of money,” not whether federal funds are actually used to fund abortions, which account for only three percent of the organization’s operations.
