Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak “lit the final fuse” with his refusal to resign Thursday during a nationally televised speech, and the situation could quickly turn increasingly violent, says Rep. Gary Ackerman, D-N.Y.

In an interview on MSNBC, Ackerman, the ranking member of the Foreign Affairs subcommittee on the Middle East and South Asia, also called Mubarak's speech “a sadistic tease.”

”He just lit the final fuse,” he said. “And now I think the situation is going to verge on the explosive over the next 24 hours.”
