Hollywood is known for backing left-wing causes. And now a liberal Democrat will be backing Hollywood’s cause. Former Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., will take over as chairman and chief executive officer of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) on March 17,
Politico reports.
Dodd will replace temporary chief Bob Pisano. The MPAA had engaged in a protracted search to find a successor to former Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman.
Glickman had replaced the legendary Jack Valenti, who is now deceased. Valenti had been a former aide to President Lyndon Johnson.
The Motion Picture Association initially sought former Sen. Bob Kerrey, D-Neb., to replace Glickman, but Kerrey turned down the high-profile position.
The inability to land Kerrey prompted some industry heavies to tell Politico that the MPAA has lost some of its power.
