Former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson says to expect the unexpected for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination,
Politico reports. He says the GOP will untimately choose a "dark horse candidate" in the vein of Tennessee Sen. Lamar Alexander to challenge President Barack Obama.
"A dark horse candidate that is strong with their conservative base, that is articulate, that’s attractive," Richardson said during an appearance Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union."
Alexander, who also was on the show, said he didn't consider billionaire Donald Trump to be the leading contender for the 2012 GOP nomination.
"Tim Pawlenty has a much better chance than Donald Trump," he said.
