Question: I am 85 and in good health, but I can’t stop my hands from shaking. What’s causing this and what can I do about it?

Dr. Hibberd’s answer:

New hand tremors at your age should be evaluated by your physician. It may be caused by liver disease, a brain disorder (such as Parkinson’s disease), a medication side effect, drug or alcohol withdrawal, a thyroid disorder (hyperthyroidism), or other conditions.

It is best to go early for evaluation, as some disorders can be stopped but not reversed.
