Question: I recently was diagnosed with high blood pressure (150/100) and was prescribed lisinopril. I’ve been taking it for several weeks and my blood pressure has gone down a little but not enough. What’s the next step for me?

It takes up to six weeks for the blood pressure to stabilize after starting this type of medicine. Most physicians start on a low dose and work themselves to the higher and higher doses. Your next step would be to increase your dose under your doctor's supervision. Once maximized then layering of other blood pressure medicines is appropriate. Of course, you should also be dieting, excercising, avoiding caffeine, and alcohol.
