Question: You have written that you take 100 mg of iodine/potassium iodide supplement per day. Do you have patients who are thriving on that dosage?
Dr. Brownstein's Answer:
Yes, I have many patients on larger doses of iodine. Those patients are usually ill with an endocrine problem such as breast cancer, prostate cancer, thyroid cancer, or autoimmune thyroid illness.
But not every patient with one of these illnesses requires 100 mg/day of iodine. Every patient is a unique. There is no “one- size-fits-all” dose for any medication or supplement. One of the major problems with conventional medicine is that everybody gets the same medications at the same dosage for a particular problem.
Some patients have better renal or liver function than others. They may need higher doses of medications, while others may need lower. See a healthcare practitioner who is knowledgeable about iodine. He/she can help guide you.
