A new analysis concludes that some members of President-elect Donald Trump's administration hold different views than their boss on several key issues.
Damian Paletta writes in The Wall Street Journal that the end result could mean the incoming administration faces some challenges after it takes office in less than a month.
The Journal outlines differences between Trump and some cabinet and staff selections, including:
- Rep. Mick Mulvaney, budget director: Opposes raising the government's debt ceiling, while Trump's proposed tax cuts and defense spending increases could lead to a growing budget deficit.
- Rex Tillerson, secretary of state: Said climate change is partly due to humans, while Trump has written off the phenomenon as a hoax and something created by the Chinese government.
- Other cabinet selections, reports the Journal, were in favor of the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal, which Trump opposes.
- Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt, EPA administrator: Opposes a federal mandate to force alternative fuels like ethanol into the U.S. market, while Trump has hinted that he's in favor of the practice.
In another example, the Washington Examiner reported that Trump's White House trade czar Peter Navarro was once opposed to real estate development at both the residential and commercial levels.
