CBS News/NYT Poll: Bernie Sanders Clips Hillary's Lead to 7 Points

Bernie Sanders has clipped Hillary Clinton's lead to seven points in the latest national poll, as the race for the Democratic presidential nomination heads into the early voting states.

Here are the results of the latest CBS News/New York Times poll of 1,276 adults nationwide, including 1,094 registered voters. The data were released Tuesday:
  • Clinton: 48 percent.
  • Sanders: 41 percent.
  • Martin O'Malley: 2 percent.
Here's how the results compared with a Dec. 20 poll:
  • Sanders: Up 9 points, from 32 percent.
  • Clinton: Down 4 points, from 52 percent.
  • O'Malley: Same at 2 percent.
In other results, the survey asked respondents who would most likely end up as the Democratic nominee.

By a wide margin, most Democratic primary voters expect:
  • Clinton: 72 percent.
  • Sanders: 17 percent.
The poll was conducted between Thursday and Sunday.
