President Barack Obama plans to nominate Kathryn Dominguez, an economics and public policy professor at the University of Michigan, to fill a vacancy on the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington.

Dominguez, who has published extensively on foreign exchange policy questions, will join Allan Landon, former chief executive officer of the Bank of Hawaii, in awaiting approval by the Senate. Their confirmations would bring the Fed board to its full complement of seven members.

“Dr. Dominguez has the proven experience, judgment, and deep knowledge of the financial system, monetary policy, and international capital markets to serve at the Federal Reserve during this important time for our economy,” Obama said Monday in a statement in Washington.
