The U.K. Department for Energy and Climate Change said it will work with China to cut carbon-dioxide emissions.

The countries signed an agreement to share knowledge on market mechanisms and measuring emissions to spur investment in low-carbon technologies and energy efficiency, they said today in a statement. They plan to publish a joint plan to reduce CO2 later this year.

China and the U.K. said they will focus on pilot projects in Chongqing, Guangdong and Hubei provinces with a combined population of 180 million people.

“Making green growth a reality for both countries will be crucial for prosperity, the environment and for our energy security,” Chris Huhne, energy and climate change secretary, said in an e-mail statement today.
