Wal-Mart Stores Inc. plans to expand its Asda chain in the U.K. over the next five years.

The world's largest retailer says it will open 100 smaller-format Asda supermarkets. It also wants to expand its current 24 Asda Living stores, which offer home products, to about 150 stores. A 25th Asda Living opens Friday.

Wal-Mart plans to expand Asda's clothing division, named George, online at George.com.

Asda, which is Britain's No. 2 food seller behind Tesco, operates 374 stores.
